Roaches are nocturnal and secretive. By the time you are seeing them during the day, the population has usually outgrown its harbourage.
Allergens And Asthma
Cockroach droppings, shed skins and saliva are established indoor allergens and a recognised asthma trigger, particularly for children. This is the health consequence people are least aware of and the one that argues hardest for dealing with an indoor population properly.

Roaches are nocturnal by preference. Daytime sightings usually mean harbourage is full and individuals are being displaced into open space, which indicates the population is considerably larger than what you have actually seen.

Identification
Small and tan with two dark stripes behind the head is a German roach, and the work moves indoors. Large and reddish-brown is an American roach, or palmetto bug, and the work moves to the perimeter and the entry points. We check harbourage, drains and door sweeps before choosing anything.

German roaches are treated with gel bait placed directly into harbourage, which they feed on and carry back, combined with growth regulator to break the breeding cycle.
